Dr. Eimear Dolan was awarded her PhD in Biomedical Engineering from NUI Galway in 2015 for research in the field of orthopaedics under the supervision of Prof. Laoise McNamara. Prior to this, she graduated with a First Class Honours Degree in Biomedical Engineering from NUI Galway. Since graduating, she has worked as a postdoctoral researcher in Trinity College Dublin (TCD), Royal College of Surgeons (RCSI) and NUI Galway on European Union (EU) funded translational research programs, and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).  As a postdoctoral researcher Dr Dolan has focused on the development and coupling of medical device systems with smart biomaterials and stem cells for the treatment of myocardial infarction and diabetes.

Dr. Dolan joined the Discipline of Biomedical Engineering at NUI Galway in September 2018. Her key research interest is in medical devices, their effect on the host cells and coupling therapies to minimally invasive delivery devices. As an independent investigator, her vision is to leverage medical device research to enable both applications in biomaterial and cell/drug delivery and tissue engineering for various disease states.
